Grades used in the gazette
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa boards award a grade from the percentage of total marks. “A+” in everyday language is the board's A1 grade.
| Grade | Percentage of total marks |
| A1 | 80% and above |
| A | 70% to 79% |
| B | 60% to 69% |
| C | 50% to 59% |
| D | 40% to 49% |
| E | 33% to 39% |
| F | Below 33% (failed) |
How the numbers are calculated
- Appeared counts the students listed in the gazette except those marked absent.
- Passed means a grade from A1 to E. Every other appeared student counts as failed. Pass % is passed divided by appeared.
- Average marks is taken over passed students only, because failed students are listed without marks.
- Schools with fewer than 10 appeared students are not shown, and rankings use a minimum number of students (20 by default) so that a tiny group cannot top the list.
- Results from 2020 were declared under the COVID-19 promotion policy, so they should not be compared directly with other years.
- The data covers the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Abbottabad.

they do not measure everything that matters about a school.
